Reiki

Reiki (pronounced Ray-key), is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy. We carry this energy in ourselves, and it is all around us. The practice of Reiki is an ancient form of hands-on healing, or spiritual healing, connected with light-energy teachings from India and the time of the sixth century Buddha. It was re-discovered in Japan by Mikao Usui in 1922, and it has since travelled around the world. Peoples lives can and do change as a result of our consciously bringing this beautiful energy into our daily life. Animals and plants also benefit greatly from Reiki.
There is no belief system attached to Reiki - anyone can receive or learn to give a Reiki treatment. The only prerequisite is a desire to be healed or to heal. Reiki fully supports all forms of both orthodox and complementary treatments and therapies.

How can Reiki help?

Reiki will usually flow to the area of greatest need, be that physical, mental or emotional. It can help to soothe and release emotional blocks and defences of which we may not be aware. Physical discomforts and pain can be reduced. Tension and stress melt away, as inner balance is restored. The process of healing begins, or is enhanced and deepened by regular practice of Reiki. After Reiki, we can feel more positive, energised, or relaxed, and we may experience sounder sleep patterns. Reiki can also make a contribution in cases of chronic or terminal illness, bringing comfort, reassurance, acceptance and peace in challenging times.

What can I expect during a Reiki Treatment?

A Reiki treatment is very simple, non-invasive and relaxing. You will normally be lying down, but there is no need to remove any clothing. You will be covered with a blanket, so as not to become chilled as you relax, or even fall asleep. The practitioner will gently place his or her hands on or just above the body in a sequence of positions which passes from head to toe. You may feel warmth, or some light tingling sensations, or you may feel very little – but whatever it is, there should be no discomfort. Reiki will flow to areas of need, soothing pain and supporting the body's natural ability to heal itself and restore balance. This is a holistic treatment for body, mind and spirit. It will usually take thirty minutes to an hour.
